Built in 1914, this period home of Ron and Marie Jager is just as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside. Designed for the Medie Kyle family by architect Roy Thomas, it served the Kyle family for three generations, until 1972 when Ron and Marie bought the home. Upon entering the home one is dazzled by the extraordinary hand-crafted woodwork in each room. Featured in the front room of the home is a beautiful fireplace flanked by original lead glass bookshelves. Instead of wallpaper, the home features tasteful fabric wall coverings. Authentic Victorian furniture graces the home throughout all the rooms. A
beautiful German crystal chandelier prominently hangs in the dining room. A little known fact about the impressive
dining room is that in 1999 the room was featured in the movie, “A Texas
Funeral”. It served as a funeral parlor
for actor Martin Sheen to lie in repose.
The
home boasts a renovation of the original back screen porch. This renovation is known to the family and
friends of the Jagers as the “saloon room”.
The room was inspired by an antique cash register from Marie’s father’s
grocery store. Behind the counter is a
back bar which looks as if it came out of a fine, early saloon. But, the reality is that the piece was
hand-crafted by Ron. While the home is
large and impressive, once inside, you feel the warmth and comfort of an
inviting family home.
