This
year's lemonade respite is being held amidst the lovely oaks of the Charles and
Francile Blue's home at 1001 West San Antonio Street. In March 1853, Amariah Wilson originally
purchased the property upon which this picturesque home resides. The property was inherited by his
children
and passed down another generation until it was eventually sold by a Guardian
Uncle to finance his great-grandchildren's education The present home was built
in the early years of twentieth century was sold in 1909 to J.B. and Sarah S.
Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a Judge in San Marcos from 1909-1911.
The
home was purchased 1914 by W.G. and Emma Fuller. Early records indicate that
they lived in the home some 38 years and it was commonly known as the “Fuller
House.”Many senior citizens remember
this house from when they were children, stopping by to get pears from the tree
in the front
yard and buying eggs and butter from Mrs. Fuller. An old barn used to sit in the corner of the
yard where the workshop now stands. An additional family with the Fuller
surname lived in the home for four years in the 1960’s.
Mr.
& Mrs. Blue purchased the property in 1983 and it is now known as the
Wilson-Fuller-Blue home.“80 years old
and falling apart” is the description Charles and Francile used when first
walking through the home. The Blues have
carefully restored the home to what was probably
its
original exterior appearance and have done most of the work themselves. With its stately oaks, lovely wrap around
porch and antique wrought iron fence the home is a charming residence in the
San Antonio Historic District.
The
home was shown on the Heritage Association of San Marcos' Home Tour in 1993 and
was graciously offered as a cool and refreshing Lemonade respite on this year's
Home Tour entitled the “Roses of San Antonio Street” on May 3rd and 4th.
